Everything you need to know and more.....

Q: Poa or bent grass?
A: I think it all still depends on what sort of state you inherit your greens.
We know it is definitely possible to control your Poa percentage especially if you have new greens but yet when we look at greens that are in the 80% region well then you've pretty much have got only one option and that is to make that Poa surface work for you.

Many of the top courses in the States are Poa and are very well recognized as having fantastic putting surfaces,
for example Baltusrol where they had the PGA Championship in 2005.

Q: Where can i Get info on the building, design and construction of a green for a low budget course with limited funds?

Three companies you can contact are:
Top Turf, Golf Data and Evergreen Gardens.

Q: What effect has dew on bent grass greens? Does it have any adverse effect?
A:

Dew on greens is a problem in summer as it as it creates the ideal conditions for disease to thrive.  To avoid long dew periods it would be an idea to irrigate in the pre-dawn hours and then to cut as early as possible.
In winter our soil and air temperatures decrease to the extent that diseases will not be a problem.

Q: In winter with severe frost conditions, would you irrigate your cynodin greens to keep them soft, or for what other reason would you irrigate in winter?
A: Irrigating your greens to remove frost does work but this all depends on
how cold it is on the day. The reason for this is because the
same water that you apply can then freeze. If you do this from time to
time, possibly for an important day, it should be fine but
remember over water can do more damage than what many people think.
For most courses, the only form of irrigation in winter should be hand watering, and that would be direct application to only the hot spots.
